Depop Vs Vinted | Which Is Better Marketplace

E-commerce is a very important part of running a business in this modern world. There are many e-commerce platforms where small business owners set up their online stores and grow their businesses. Depop and Vinted are such marketplaces where used and vintage fashion items are bought and sold at a cheaper rate daily.

These two marketplaces are a place where seller can declutter their wardrobes and buyers can find their desired items at a cheaper price. It does not have to be a professional business to list items on these two platforms, anyone can buy and sell as long as they follow the rules of the Depop and Vinted.

Products

Even though both Depop and Vinted were created for selling fashion, they do have their own differences. Depop was initially a social media platform where users post their fashionable photos and get likes, hence the products sold on Depop are mainly vintage used clothes and clothing accessories such as shoes, bags, ornaments, sunglasses, etc.

As for Vinted, it was also originally created to sell vintage fashion items but it eventually started listing new or used products. Sellers can list any item such as clothes, shoes, accessories, phone cases, or toiletries as long as the item is small enough for parceling.

Commission Fee

Anyone can list and promote their products completely free of cost on these two reselling websites, meaning they do not charge any listing fee whatsoever. However, they do charge in different ways.

Once an item is sold, Depop charges 10% of the selling price as a commission fee on each sale. Even though it doesn’t sound much, Depop has other policies. While shipment, the company takes a transaction fee of 2.9% + £0.30 in the UK and 2.9% + $0.30 in the US. This commission fee is automatically subtracted from your Depop Balance once the buyer pays you.

On the other hand, Vinted does not charge any fee on listing or selling from the sellers, rather it charges a 3% to 8% ‘Buyer Protection Fee’ from the buyers in case anything happens during the shipping process. Therefore, as a vinted seller you would get the full payment after selling an item without leaving a single penny.

Shipping

Shipping can be done in two ways in Depop and the seller gets to choose the shipping method while listing the product. They can either choose to ship on their own or ship with Depop. Depop partners with USPS to collect the sold products from the seller and deliver them to the buyer. All the seller has to do is print the shipping the shipping, pack the item properly, and hand it over to the delivery person. The shipping fee is included in the price and either the seller or the buyer pays for it.

In the case of Vinted, the buyer pays for the shipping and chooses the shipping service. Make sure to chat and come to a mutual agreement on the cost and service before shipping the item. Vinted will send a prepaid shipping label which needs to be attached to the package before shipping for easy tracking.

Payment

Depop works with PayPal to deal with every transaction, which that means to become a full-time store owner in Depop you must have a PayPal account linked with the platform along with a Bank Account. After the sale, Depop immediately subtracts the commission fee and pays the seller via Depop Balance.

Vinted takes 2 business days to pay the seller. This is required to verify if the product is delivered safely without any issues. Upon receiving the order, as long as the buyer confirms the purchase you can easily transfer your full profit from Vinted Wallet to your linked bank account and withdraw anytime.

In Conclusion

It is always important to know about the website and its pros and cons before listing your products. It is not necessary for you to follow everyone and set up your shop at the same place where everyone does. See what suits you best and fulfills your needs first. There is no clear winner in the battle of selling on Depop vs. Vinted, both have their own wins and losses so choose wisely, and good luck earning extra bucks by selling items.
